Support Tip - Browser Cache

Last updated on 2018-04-21 2 mins. to read

We regularly update myCableEngineering with new features, bug fixes and other enhancements.  Our application is also web-based, allowing the user to interact with the application through a web-browser of their choice.  Given the number of different browsers, browser features and user settings, sometimes this can create issues.

When you first run our application, your browser will download the app to your computer.  The next time you use the application, your browser will use the copy stored on your computer.  The browser does this to speed up the performance of your browsing experience.  After some time (normally when your local cache is full), your browsers will redownload the app and refresh its cache.

When we update our application, we use versioning to let your browser know it needs to download the latest versions.  This works in most cases, but sometimes, it may fail, and you will continue to use the older version until your browser updates its cached version. Occasionally,  we also see an issue where the browser has partially downloaded some updated files, but still, is using the cached version of others.  This can lead to some strange behaviour.

If for any reason you are not seeing the latest updates or experiencing strange behaviour after an update, we suggest you manually clear your browser cache and reload the application.  You can easily find instructions for clearing the cache for your particular browser by searching Google.

Some of our suggestions on clearing cache are:

Google Chrome
reload page: [Ctrl] + [F5] or [Shift] + [F5] or [Ctrl] + browser Reload button
reload page and bypass cache: [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [R]
clear cache: [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [Del]

Mozilla Firefox
reload page and bypass cache: [Ctrl] + [F5] or [Ctrl] + [SHIFT] + [R] or [Shift] + browser Reload button
clear cache: [Ctrl] + [Shift] + [Del]

Microsoft Edge
select settings from you main browser menu,  then 'Clear browsing data' followed by 'Cached data and files'

In most instances you should not experiance any issues.  However, if are having problems even after trying the above, please contact us, and we will be glad to assist.
